American Bauhaus, Pre Production

Well, Kayla Laird and I have received the green-light on producing the first leg of American Bauhaus.

We leave in two days for Germany, where we will spend two full weeks collecting interviews with experts of the Bauhaus art movement and capturing footage with our brand-spankin’-new cinema gear of more than two dozen museums and historical locations. Suffice to say, this is going to be a lot of fun – and a lot of work!

Kayla Laird, a wonderful and very accomplished Cinematographer, will act as the Director of Photography. Her presence and collaboration on this film has done wonders to cool my nerves! I couldn’t ask for a better creative partner and I couldn’t find one with a better cinematic eye. In her hands, I know this film will look fantastic.

Some of you may know that I’ve been preparing this project since I was but a wee lad – it was my first dream of feature filmmaking and I am beyond excited to bring it to life now. I had not planned on it happening so soon, but it’s a welcome addition to my growing list of projects nonetheless.

I’ve been a student of Bauhaus philosophy my whole life – more specifically the traditions developed in their ceramics workshop under guild master Max Krehan and latter passed down by Marguerite Freidlaender-Wildenhain, his principal student and master potter of Pond Farm pottery in California.

While filmmaking is my primary passion, ceramics is a close second. This project will be a fantastic opportunity to slip-and-score my two interests into one joint piece. I will continue to update my blog as I have the opportunity to do so in the coming weeks!
